BRUNO KRETZSCHMAR
Executive Director

Coach Bruno was born and raised in Brazil, picking up competitive volleyball at age 13. After high school and club, he went on to become a four-year starter at Limestone University, where he captained for two years, earning several conference accolades and setting the record for most points in program history. Bruno ranked Top Ten Points/Set in the 2016 season and Top 9 Aces/Set in 2017 across the NCAA. After graduating from Limestone, he went on to play overseas in the UK and Israel before returning to the US as a player for Northeast Force in the VLA. Coach Bruno has been coaching boys volleyball since it became sanctioned by the SCHSL. Before then, he spent one season as a volunteer assistant coach at Bucknell University. Bruno is the Head Coach for the Wando boys volleyball program, where he was the 2023 and 2025 Region 7-5A Coach of the Year. Most recently, Coach Bruno was honored as one of Charleston's Forty Under 40 due to his community involvement and leadership.

BETTINA WOODMAN

Coach B grew up in Fairfield, CT as a four-sport athlete, starting at age five with soccer softball, basketball and finally finding and developing a passion for volleyball. She played high school and club volleyball, earning all-region honors and championships as a both a setter and libero, before going on to play DI at University of Hartford as a defensive specialist. Bettina has been coaching for 20 years with experience across all ages and levels for both girls and boys. She is in her 10th season as a club coach and recruiting coordinator in Charleston, where she continues to build her network and pursue educational opportunities to grow and adapt with the sport and guide athletes in their pursuit of a collegiate career. Coach B is currently in her second season with Wando High School boys volleyball. Coach B continues to compete at USAV Open Nationals and adult leagues.

EMILY ROCHEFORT

As an All-Atlantic Sun Second Team performer and team captain at Mercer, Coach Emily led the conference in digs and was ranked 30th in the nation in the category as a junior. Her 556 digs rank fourth in Mercer single-season history as she reached double-digit digs in 27 of 29 matches. Additionally, she was a letter-winner and captain of the Bears' beach volleyball team. The Atlantic Sun All-Academic honoree graduated from Mercer in 2014 with a degree in communications and received a Master's in education with a concentration in higher education leadership in 2015. Emily was the GA for Mercer for a season while she finished her masters. Coach Emily moved back to Savannah after graduating, and became the Director of the Volleyball Program at St. Andrew's School, where she led all varsity / JV practices / games, while also overseeing practices, training, clinics and camps for 1st-8th grades. She was also the middle school athletic director while there. Emily coached for Club Savannah for four seasons - ages ranging from 13 to 18. She was hired as the Rutgers Director of Volleyball Operations in March of 2020, where she oversaw all logistical aspects of the program for two seasons, while also learning and observing some of the top college coaches in the US. Now, Emily works as an executive recruiter for The Millard Group and coaches club and at COK.

BAILEY DUNCAN

Bailey Duncan has fully engrained in the sport of volleyball for 13 years. Coach Duncan started playing at age 11 for Stars Carolina in Spartanburg, SC and was a four-year varsity player at Gaffney High School, where she earned 5A All-Region in 2017/18 and 2018/19 and was invited to play in the South Carolina North-South All-Star game for the 2018 season. While in college, Coach Duncan caoched for both Stars Carolina and Stars Savannah. She has served in multiple coaching roles for five years at the club, varsity and JV levels, and is currently the West Ashley varsity assistant coach.

MICHAEL MCLAUGHLIN
18 Select Boys
Michael started playing club volleyball at age 13 in Pittsburgh, PA. He won 2 AAU national championships during his club career. In high school he was 3x all-district and 2 time all-state player. His senior year he was district MVP. He started his collegiate career at Saint Francis University before transferring to Pfeiffer University winning Conference Carolina’s regular season and tournament championship as a starting opposite his senior year. Michael played as an outside, middle, opposite and setter throughout his collegiate career. Michael also spent time as a student assistant for the University of Pittsburgh women’s volleyball program. Michael continues to play grass and sand volleyball competitively.

MARY HARRIET MOORE
17 Select Girls
Coach Mary Harriet is a Charleston native and grew up as a multi-sport athlete playing volleyball, soccer, and basketball. She attended Bishop England High where she played four years on the varsity volleyball and basketball teams. During her time at Bishop England, she won four state championships in volleyball, won two state championships in basketball, and garnered all-state, all-region, 2A Player of the Year, and Maxpreps.com All-American Honors before going on to play D1 volleyball at Davidson College. At Davidson, Moore was a middle blocker and four-year volleyball letterman- starting for two of those years. She was also named captain her senior year and was voted by her teammates as the Dr. Lou Ortmayer Wildcat Award recipient for best all-around teammate. After Davidson, Coach Mary Harriet attended the University of South Carolina School of Law and now practices law in the Charleston area. Coach Mary Harriet continues to play in adult indoor and beach leagues as well as annually at the USAV Adult Nationals. She is in her fourth year of coaching club volleyball.

BRITNEY HELD

Coach Britney is originally from Brookfield, Wisconsin, and moved to Charlotte to play collegiate volleyball at UNC Charlotte from 2012-2015. Held wrapped up her playing career sitting sixth on Charlotte's all-time assists list, while majoring in English and a earning a minor in education. She then went on to receive her Masters in Education. Coach Britney coached with CUVC for eight seasons and CLT Beach for four years in the Charlotte area. She is currently an Implementation Specialist at Submittable located in Summerville, South Carolina, and continues to compete at the open level in both indoor and outdoor.

COURTNEY SHINE

Coach Courtney Shine is a native of Moncks Corner, SC. She moved to Branchville SC her freshman year of high school where she played high school volleyball under Starr Bright. She was a standout on the volleyball court garnering many All-Region, All-Tournament honors. She was named the Times & Democrat player of the year, CAWS player of the year, also MVP of the North/South team in 2008.  Went on to play volleyball at Lander University where she was 2nd on the team in blocks and kills (2009-10). Coach Shine has coached both JV and Varsity Volleyball at Berkeley High School where she is starting her 10th year at Berkeley High School. She coached Club Volleyball for C4 club in Branchville for 2 years and Carolina islanders for 6 years. She is currently the head volleyball coach at Berkeley High School and works in Administration there. Coach Shine is married with two sons. When she is not doing volleyball she enjoys spending time with her family and having fun. Coach Shine is excited to join the coaching staff at Apex Volleyball Club and eager to continue to help train and develop collegiate level athletes.

SAVANNAH MILLER
Mental Performance Coach

Coach Savannah is an assistant Volleyball coach at Porter-Gaud. In 2022, she received a Master's degree in Sport Psychology and Motor Behavior from the University of Tennessee. After graduation, Savannah spent a summer training in Gold Medal Squared methodology and joined the University of Miami Volleyball staff as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2022 season where the Hurricanes competed in the NCAA Division I Championships, the program's 11th appearance. Coach Savannah is a USAV Open Champion. She previously played collegiate volleyball as a Defensive Specialist for Clemson University 2012-13. She finished her volleyball career as an Outside Hitter with the Clemson University Club volleyball team, where she helped lead the club to the NCVF Championships in 2015 and 2016. She was awarded club MVP her senior year. Native to Charleston, Coach Savannah played volleyball for Wando High, earning All-Region, All-Lowcountry, All-State, All-Tournament, and All-Star honors. She also helped her 17's club team earn a bid to the USAV Junior National Championships in 2011. Coach Savannah is an advocate for ending abuse in sport, and she believes in the power of vulnerability. She views hardships as growth opportunities; her past experiences inform her compassionate, athlete-led coaching style where athletes have the autonomy to creatively problem-solve and take charge of turning their dreams into reality. This will be her 8th year coaching. Outside of coaching, Savannah enjoys collegiate volleyball officiating and she is an animal enthusiast.

DIEMEND MCGARRY

Coach Diemend McGarry, or Coach D, was born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina. She was a standout dual-athlete at Goose Creek High School, excelling in both track and volleyball. Throughout her volleyball career, she earned numerous all-region honors, made the North/South All-Star team in her senior year, and currently holds the school record for career assists as a setter. Coach D received a full scholarship to Grambling State University, where she was a starting setter and served as team captain for all four years. During her college career, she ranked among the top five for aces in the conference, showcasing her offensive skills and leadership qualities. With 8 years of experience as a personal trainer and 3 years coaching at the club level, Coach D is passionate about player development and mentorship. Currently, as the assistant coach at Northwood Academy, she focuses on helping athletes improve their skills, teamwork, and confidence both on and off the court.

SOPHIA KLUSKA

Sophia is a student-athlete at Charleston Southern University, where she just finished her junior season as an outside hitter, achieving her career highs in both kills and blocks. Sophia was named to multiple all-tournament teams during her high school career at Sherwood and named best blocker in club volleyball events spanning from 2018-21.

SKYLAR YATES

Skylar was born and raised in West Virginia. Prior to moving to Charleston, she was named the 2020/2021 West Virginia Gatorade Player of the Year. A four-year starter for CSU, she just finished her senior season as an outside hitter, being named to Big South's Second-Team All Conference. In 2022, Skylar was named to Big South All-Freshman Team.

MADDE BLAKE

My name is Madde Blake and I am from Illinois. I played club volleyball for 9 years before starting my 5 year college career. I played four years at Gannon University where I received All Conference, All Region, and All American Honors. I competed at two Elite 8 championships and one Final Four before graduating and transferring to play at Lander University for my graduate year. I currently teach fourth grade in Charleston and love to workout, go to the beach, and try new coffees!!!

CARRY BROWN

Brown became the ninth Charleston Southern head volleyball coach in program history in May of 2023. She came to the Buccaneers after coaching stops at Brescia University, Kentucky Wesleyan College and most recently Florida College. Brown spent the last five seasons as the head coach at Florida College after taking on the role in 2018. She compiled a record of 97-74, including a 40-24 conference record, across two conferences, in that time frame. In 2022, the Falcons went 12-1 in the Continental Athletic Conference (CAC), winning the conference tournament without dropping a set and earning a bid to the NAIA National Tournament. Brown’s name was popular with the end of the year awards across the CAC as she was named the 2022 Continental Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. Along with being the Head Volleyball coach at Florida College, Brown also served the facility side of the College as a sports management professor, teaching multiple classes in the program and helping to grow the number of students in it. Before arriving at Florida College, Brown was at NCAA Division II program Kentucky Wesleyan College, serving three years as the Assistant Volleyball Coach, heading the recruiting efforts. Prior to that, Brown served as the Head Coach and Director of Audubon Volleyball Association (AVA) out of Owensboro, Kentucky, a club program serving many different age groups. Brown also spent two seasons as the Assistant Volleyball Coach at Brescia University prior to her AVA work. While there she also served on the academic side campus as she started the sport management program at Brescia. Brown spent her playing days at Florida College, playing all four seasons from 2002-2005. During her stint at Florida College, she was Co-Captain from 2003-2005. She was named the team MVP in 2004, conference MVP in 2005, and named to numerous All-Tournament teams throughout the four years. She helped lead her team to win the USCAA National Championship in 2003 and 2005. Brown graduated from Western Kentucky University with her bachelor’s degree in exercise science in 2007 and went on to complete her master’s degree in Sports Administration in 2009. Brown is married to her husband JB and they have two kids, Hadley and Ty.

Savannah Freeman

Coach Sav is originally from Pauline, South Carolina, and has been passionate about volleyball for over a decade. Her journey began with Upward Stars in Spartanburg, SC, where she quickly fell in love with the game. A standout athlete at Dorman High School, Coach Sav earned Region Player of the Year honors as a junior, was named to the All-State Team as a senior, and won a state championship her senior year. Her love for volleyball extended beyond the court when she began coaching at Academies and Risers camps and clinics, as well as offering private lessons at Apex, where she discovered a deep passion for mentoring young athletes and helping them develop both skill and confidence. She continued her volleyball and academic career at Charleston Southern University, where she studied Pre-Law and Legal Studies, graduating in just three years. During her time at CSU, she played a key role in leading the team to its highest attack percentage in years (2024) and was recognized on the Big South’s Presidential Honor Roll. With one year of eligibility remaining, Coach Sav transferred to The Citadel to pursue her Masters of Science in Leadership. Now stepping into her first season as a head coach, she is thrilled to be leading her own team and is passionate about fostering growth, teamwork, and a love for the game in each of her players. Coach Sav is ready to bring energy, knowledge, and heart to the court this season—and she can't wait to see her team grow and succeed together.

DONYA AMER
Business Development & Mentor
Coach Donya Amer is from Mount Pleasant, SC. She graduated from Ashley Hall School earning two state championships during her time. She continued her academic and athletic career at Wofford College majoring in French and Business. During her time at Wofford she began her coaching career at Upward Stars. Donya has coached various ages spanning from 10-18 years old for the past 15 years. When Donya is not coaching, she is teaching 3rd grade at Memminger Elementary School. Donya currently coaches both JV and Varsity volleyball at her alma mater, Ashley Hall.
